The foundation of FOS Neumarkt i.d.OPf. and its development
In 1969/1970 the necessity of vocational secondary schools was discussed for the first time. So those responsible for the local government applied for a FOS to be established in the city of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz. The following year, school life started. Even though the beginning was fairly easy, the first few years were difficult as teachers, classrooms, teaching materials and work placements were insufficiently available. However, with the aid of people from schools, government and chambers, the hard phase was finally overcome.
The FOS Neumarkt has very often changed its location and teachers had to teach in several separate buildings due to constant lack of rooms. The reason was the continuously rising number of pupils (it rose from about 100 in 1970 to 1000 only 30 years later).
In September 1986 Mr Gottfried Bartsch became the new principal.
In 1990, on the occasion of the 20th birthday celebrations, the school was named “Maximilian-Kolbe-School”.
Only seven years later, the BOS was established which offered an additional learning opportunity for young local people with work experience, even though only Fachabitur could be acquired within the first years.
The newly erected building for both FOS and BOS has been used since 1998 and has already been extended twice. The possibility for pupils of the BOS to acquire “Allgemeine Hochschulreife” has been existing since 2003 for the branch “economics” and since 2006 for the branch “engineering”.
Mr Reinhard Hornauer took over from his predecessor Mr Gottfried Bartsch as headmaster on 1st August 2006.
By the way, due to continuous development, our school has been introducing a quality management system in recent years – something inevitable in trade and commerce.
In summary, one can say that the Maximilian-Kolbe-School has grown to a well-established and highly successful member of all local educational institutions.
